President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of Krobo that he would not take their support for granted and would ensure that the area receives it’s fair share of national development.
President Mahama gave the assurance when he addressed a durbar of chiefs and people of Manya Krobo Traditional Area on the first day of his three days visit of the Eastern Region as part of his accounting to the people tour.
He said, during the 2012 campaign, one of the problems that the people of Manya Krobo put before him was the rehabilitation of the roads in the area and the improvement of schools.
President Mahama said, under his three- year rule, many of the road projects in the Manya Krobo had been completed and some are under construction or rehabilitation and gave the assurance that rest would be rehabilitated soon.
He said, under the previous expansion projects of the Kpong Water Works, the focus was on pumping the water to feed Accra and Tema, however, under the latest expansion, efforts was made to ensure that the water was extended to many communities in Manya Krobo and Asuogyaman.
He said Parliament had given approval for the extension of electricity to more than 170 communities in the Upper Manya Krobo that were left out in the rural electrification project.
The President later addressed a durbar at Akwamufie where he commended the chiefs and people of Akwamufie, Anum and Boso for the unity among them and commended the three Paramount Chiefs in the area for deciding to hold a joint durbar to honour him.
He appealed to the traditional authorities in the Asuogyaman District to deal with the challenges associated with land acquisition to enable commercial farmers to acquire land for their investments.
Nene Aseda Ahor who spoke on behalf of the chiefs and people of Manya Krobo called for early completion of the Somanya to Kpong road rehabilitation and the construction of the Manya Krobo Sports Stadium at Akonuase where the traditional authorities had donated land for the project.
The President made a stopover at Kpong, Senkyi, Otokporlu and Nkurankan where he interacted with the market women.
