GPRTU will stand against increase in insurance premium-road safety consultant

A renowned road safety and insurance consultant who doubled as a consultant to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Mr. Akyea Dankwah has told Rite FM that so far as he is a consultant to GPRTU, they will stand against the implementation of the new 800% increment in premium insurance by the insurance companies.

Mr. Godfred Akyea Dankwah speaking on the “morning ride” on Rite FM explained his basis saying, if the insurance companies think that they are private-own companies and for that matter do whatever pleases them, GPRTU will stand against it, adding that GPRTU is a formidable forces that can stand against the insurance companies.

He said operators of the insurance companies should have consulted the GPRTU, PROTOA, the motoring public and all other stakeholders before announcing the 800% increment.

Mr. Akyea Dankwah also noted if the 800% increment should be implemented, it will affect the economy therefore making the ruling government unpopular, they should not do that, he lamented.

The insurance consultant mentioned that a taxi driver who use to pay ¢70 per month would now be paying ¢840, stating that insurance companies are acting like they are autonomous.

He also remarked that the 800% increase insurance premium would not work unless they consult all stake holders.
