Give Due Attention to Cashew Farming

The Best National cashew farmer for 2011 and 2014, Mr. Anthony Edu has made a profound statement saying cashew farming is the next hot cake to create greater employment opportunities in the country as a whole.

The Best National farmer at Wenchi, a suburb of the Brong- Ahafo region of the country made this statement in an interview with Emmanuel Owuraku Asamoah on the Rite Morning Ride.  He said cocoa has done its part in creating job opportunities in the country, and therefore cashew farming, by virtue of its high income values has come to replace it.

Mr. Anthony Edu, said there is a greater demand on Ghana’s cashew in the world market as compared to other countries due to its quality and improved method used in its production. These can generate a greater job opportunity as well as increased revenue to the government. This according to him must prompt government turn to support cashew farming.

He said, in spite of all these great opportunities provided by the cultivation of cashew, the industry is still engulfed with many challenges which need to be addressed. He said inadequate production materials is a major challenge facing them as these do  not enable cashew farmers to produce more to meet both local and international demand.

He has therefore pleaded with authorities to come to their rescue, in order to create more job opportunities in the country as this would help reduce the high rate of poverty in the country, and reduce rural-urban migration which is a major challenge in the country.
