Girl 14, gang raped seeks justice

The mother of a fourteen year old at Darkuman Alafia, a suburb in Accra is seeking revenge on three men in her neighbourhood who gang raped daughter in turns.

Her desire to seek revenge, the mother said is borne out of the fact that the Kaneshie Police which they reported the case to has not taken interest in the case.

“When we reported the case to them (Kaneshie Police), they only gave us a medical form to be sent to the hospital for a test…we could not afford the test because we lack money…,” she said.

The victim, according to the mother, was defiled by the yet-to-be arrested young men in turns at a ghetto the vicinity.

The victim lamented on Asempa FM’s Abrabo Programme Wednesday that, she was led to the room by a lady in her neighbourhood who asked her for escort to a location one late afternoon.

“When we got to the location, she locked me up in the room…I tried very hard to open the door but to no avail…,” she said.

She continued that while struggling, three young men forced the door open and pushed her down in the room, ripped off her clothes and rape her in turns.

“One of them held my hands while the other opened up my legs with the third person penetrating me…when one finishes, the other then comes until they finished sleeping with me…,” the victim lamented.

According to the JHS one girl, the rapists after their nefarious act always tease her brothers in the neighbourhood.

“What hurts me most is that these men go around teasing my eldest son that they have ‘chopped’ her sister…,” the victim’s mother said in tears.

The intense teasing, according to the mother is forcing the lady to seek revenge and ‘one occasion I had to run out of the bath room to seize a cutlass with which she was going to attack them from her….’

This notwithstanding, the mother said the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service has taken over the matter.
