Fuseini Abukari Adjudged Asugyaman Best District Farmer

Fuseini Abukari, a 53-year-old man has been adjudged the 2015 Asuogyaman District Best Farmer at a ceremony held in the Asuogyman District in the Eastern Region. The family man with a wife and seven children based in Adjena Kwaepom is into crop cultivation as well as animal husbandry.  He Fuseini beat off competition from others in the district with his 74 acres of maize farm, 4.5 acres of yam, 6 acres of sweet potatoes, 3 acres of cowpea, 0.5 acres of okro farm, 3 acres of mango, 0.5 acres of cassava, twenty cattle, nine sheep, fifty-five local fowls and nine guinea fowls.

For his efforts, Mr. Abubakari won for himself a table top fridge, half packet of roofing sheets, a full piece of cloth, two cutlasses, one knapsacks prayer, one wheel barrow, a pair of field boats, and a certificate.

In the first runner-up position was Rinas Farms at old Akrade.  For their prize they took home six packs of fish feed, a wheelbarrow, a pair of field boots and a certificate of recognition. Rebecca Asantewaa, second runner-up also received a wheelbarrow, one Knapsack sprayer, certificate, and a piece of cloth.

In other categories, the district best fisherman went to Bismark Davor of Mangoase, while Ali Omaru Amadu was adjudged the best cattle farmer in the district. Madam Elizbeth Dogbe of Akrade- Koo Mensah won the best poultry farmer prize while Bright Dzotorgbe was adjudged the best pig farmer from Frankadua. In the youth category, joseph Nyarko enviably won the best district youth farmer.

In all, twenty farmers and fishermen were honored on Friday to mark the 31st District Farmers Day celebrations in the Asuogyman district. This year’s event themed “Transforming Ghana: Investing in Agriculture” is focused on increasing private sector investment in the Agricultural sector to transform the country’s rural economy and rural urban migration.
