Farmers unhappy with Ghana Irrigation Authority

The secretary of Ningo Prampram Farmer Based Organizations Network in the Ningo/Prapram District, Mr Elias Lamptey has questioned why authorities did not involve them as farmers in the decision making process before constructing the Dawa Irrigation Dam.

According to him some members of the association had inspected the dam and realized that the contractor did a shoddy work and has handed over the Dam adding, it was heard  as a rumor and they do not know who is in charge of the place.

Mr Lamptey speaking to Rite FM news in an interview noted that it is not  best agricultural practice to farm around the dam but the officials of the Ghana Irrigation Dam have permitted a lot of farmers to farm there which he said could affect the operations of the dam. He said this is the reason they should have consulted some of the farmers before they constructed the dam.

He doubted how long the dam is going to last because there is a lot of farming immediately around it which can destroy the Dam.

“This is the reason why I said the contractor has done a shoddy work and I will blame him for not consulting the farmers, the assembly member of the area, and the District Chief Executive before work begun in the area; Mr Lamptey”.
