Fans turn out to welcome Black Stars after AFCON 2015

The Black Stars arrived in Accra on Monday afternoon to a rousing welcome after finishing as Silver Medalists at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

The Ghana delegation which included GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi, Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga, Management members, Coach Avram Grant and his team were met at the Kotoka International Airport by Vice President Amissah Arthur and other government officials.

Hundreds of supporters had also gathered at the airport to welcome the team who missed out on lifting the trophy after losing 9-8 on penalties to Ivory Coast in the final match played on Sunday evening.

On behalf of the delegation, GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi thanked the nation for the support it gave to the team throughout the tournament.

“I will like to thank the President, the Vice, our Sponsors and all Ghanaians for the support they gave to this team throughout the competition”.

“Hopefully the foundation laid in this tournament will be a stepping stone for us to win it in 2017”, the GFA President said in a media briefing after the team’s arrival.

He applauded the team for the commitment, discipline and dedication at the tournament which helped Ghana emerge as the best team at the tournament despite missing out on the ultimate prize.

“We were just unlucky because apart from the first game, a Ghanaian player won the best player in every match we played. Christian Atsu won both the best player and best goal of the tournament, Andre Ayew won the Top scorer award and Kwesi Appiah received the Fair Play award”.

“The players were very dedicated, committed and dedicated to the national cause and it showed on the pitch. It’s a team for the future and I congratulate them and the coach. He has done exceedingly well”.

Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur praised the team for making the nation proud and described the Black Stars as “victorious even in defeat”
