EDITORS OF DAILY GRAPHIC AND TIMES URGED TO PROMOTE AGRICULTURE

The Ashanti regional president of Ghana national association of farmers and fishermen (GNAFF) Rev. Kwadwo Asante has challenged, state owned newspapers should create a special column for promoting agriculture.

He said this will help address issues relating to agriculture and also to promote it.

Rev. Nkrumah speaking to rite news in an interview noted that, the state owned newspapers like Daily graphic and Ghanaian times which are the biggest selling newspapers in the country published more political stories, social stories and a column for public announcement but less agric related stories.

He said, though they do publish agric stories in the newspaper but it is not enough to promote agric, adding that there will be the need for the two papers to create a special column for agric stories since it is the backbone of our economy.

Rev. Nkrumah also proposed to Ghana agriculture journalist association to come out with a newspaper purposely to report on agric issues in the country.

He said this will help promote agriculture in the country and raise the standard to a peak level.

Rev. Nkrumah commenting on the broadcast media such as radio and television noted, about 80% of the issues discussed on their talk shows is politically centered ignoring the most core pillar of our development which is agriculture.

According to him, this will not help to improve the agric sector which is the back bone of our economy.
