Dry Weather Has Been Costly
Mr. Jeremiah Nuettey Teye, an Extension Officer of the Department of Agric with the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly who also doubles as a plant doctor said the dry season has increased their cost of production for the year.
Speaking on Rite FM’s Kuapa Yo, he said due to the dry weather most farmers were not able to produce except those who kept water in their farms. He also added that the process of getting water to their farms is also costly because of the use of pumping machines which come at very high cost.
According to Mr. Nuettey, to confront the problem, mango farmers are now digging boreholes in their farms which should have been done a long time ago because they have educated their farmers to adopt that method. He however said the farmers did not heed this advice which has resulted in them losing a lot this season.
