There is uproar, division and confusion at the Somanya market over yoghurt but Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo constituency, honorable Lawyer Kofi Amoatey has asked the market queen to buy yoghurt and distribute to all market women to restore peace.
Background: The MP on Friday 20th November visited the traders as part of his campaign tour and gave out Ghc 300 to the Somanya market women for refreshment. However the market queen directed that the money is kept to rehabilitate their urinal and gate which has not been in a good condition for quite a long time.
However, some of the traders disagree the suggestion of the market queen and have called for the release of the money immediately to serve purpose for which the honorable Member of Parliament gave out. This to them will end the debate on yoghurt and urinal hence bringing back peace long enjoyed in the market.
According to the traders, the rehabilitation of the urinal and the market gate was solely the responsibility of the assembly since they pay taxes every day. When Rite news visited the market, it was established that the money from the MP had caused a division as some agreed to rehabilitate the urinal and gate, not alone to buy plastic chairs to accommodate strangers who frequently visited the market and others supported buying yoghurt to refresh themselves.
In an interview with the Member of Parliament at his residence, he expressed shock and unhappiness for the development in the market as the amount was not intended to bring separation but to foster unity amongst the traders. He has therefore directed that the market queen buys yoghurt with the money and distribute to the traders adding that the urinal and the gate will be rehabilitated very soon.
