President for the Concern Farmers Association, Nana Opambour Bonsu Boateng ll has urged the nation’s security agencies to arrest and interrogate the deputy minister of Agric, Alhasan Yakubu for indulging in some alleged corrupt deals.
Explaining the reasons behind the call, Nana Opambuor who made the accusations on the Rite Morning Ride alleged that during last year’s Farmers Day celebrations, Alhassan Yakubu told the media that part of the Gh c 5m given by government for the celebrations was used to put up a mansion for the national best farmer.
According to Nana Opambuor, the deputy minister alleged that other items for the occasion were also bought from the same fund of Gh c 5m.
But Nana Opambuor in challengeing the claims of the Mr. Yakubu alleged that the said mansion which was donated to the best farmer was actually donated by the agricultural development Bank (ADB). He also shredded the deputy minister’s claims that other items awarded to the winners were part of the Gh c 5m package, stressing that those were equally funded by donors.
Nana Opambuor has therefore called for the arrest of the Mr. Alhassan Yakubu to account for every penny given him during the celebrations.
Nana also added that the agric sector needs a very competent ministry. He said the agric sector does not need any ministerial appointment by government but the farmers should come together to select their own president who can double as the minister of agric.
