The chief Agronomist for Blue Skies Limited in Nsawam, Mr. Ernest Ablorh has said that they have put in place measures to help farmers eradicate fruit flies completely.
According to Mr. Ernest Ablorh, initially, farmers were using male annihilation technique (M.T.A) which only kills the male but now they have a chemical which can destroy both male and female which is the great fruit fly cage. One gallon is enough for four (4) acres of land and can be used for two months.
Speaking in an interview on Rite FM, Mr. Ernest Ablorh revealed that, because they want to eradicate fruit flies and also enhance their production, they have bought two hundred (200) gallons which they have given out. A hundred (100) gallons to Yilo mango farmers, fifty (50) gallons to Manya Mango farmers, and fifty (50) to Damgbe West Mango farmers Association, which most have already started spraying on their farms.
He therefore stressed that, since the fruit flies are insects and do not stay at one place for long, farmers should not spray with the great fruit fly cage just once but every week.
Even-though the great fruit fly cage is very expensive, farmers should try and get the cera trap since it also helps, he urged.
