Agormanya market women Plea for Immediate Support

Market women at Agormanya in the Lower Manya Municipality in the Eastern Region of Ghana has lamented on the challenges they are going through at the market and are seeking for support from the Assembly. Speaking to the Queen Mother of the market, Madam Susana Kpabitey during the Rite 90.1FM’s ‘Feed the Future Platform’ on Tuesday May 10, 2016 confirmed to the numerous challenges confronting the market women.

According to her, tomatoes these days have become scarce and very expensive in the market as a result of the importation from Burkina Faso and also from the Northern parts of Ghana since there is no irrigational facility closer to this district for the cultivation of the tomatoes. She added that, apart from maize that the buyers determine the price, all the other commodities are priced by the farmers.

Reaffirming to the challenges the market women are going through, Hon. Philip Batsah, Assembly Member of Agormanya electoral area on the same platform elaborated the issues further. He explained to Rite 90.1 Fm that, the market is not having enough tents for the market women to sell their commodities so this has compelled some of them to sell on the road which is very pathetic.

Hon Batsah, Further emphasized on the lack of storage facilities in the markets. He deeply grieved that, the only store room for the market women is not sufficient for the women so they are appealing to the Government and the Authorities to come to their aid since the market also generate income at the Assembly. In addition he said, some of the market women do not keep their commodities clean so he has consulted the Municipal Health Directorate to organize a public educative program on sanitation for the market women to be able to desist from that act.
