UCC Empowers Students In Bono and Ahafo Regions On Over Reliance On Gov’t For Employment

Mr. Isaac Christopher Otoo, Bono, Bono East & Ahafo Regional Resident Tutor of the University Of Cape Coast – College Of Distance Education (CoDE) has urged jobless youth to venture into income generating activities rather than wait on government to provide them with jobs.

He asked graduates to consider venturing into Entrepreneurship or Artisanship rather than over burdening Government for employment saying the purpose of formal education was not solely for “white-collar” jobs.

According to him, it is very sad how millions of Ghanaian graduates wasted at home instead of taking advantage of the countless opportunities in our society today to better their lives with the knowledge they have gained from school.

He said areas such as Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Project works or even Greenhouse Farming and Snail or Pig rearing were all very lucrative avenues for wealth hence graduates should change their mindsets about the continuous waiting for Government annually to recruit them for employment with their certificates.

“It is better for the youth to start things on their own while the government supports them with needed incentives to help them grow their businesses”. Mr. Isaac Christopher Otoo advised

He made this disclosure when he spoke in an interview with our Correspondent Nana Kwadwo Adu of when the UCC CoDE held a “Leadership” training workshop at Sunyani for their students under the theme; ” Empowering the modern day graduate for entrepreneurship”

Executives of the Distance Education Students Association of Ghana (DESAG) who organized the workshop under the leadership of the Regional President Mr. Yaaro Dickson expressed their satisfaction at the quantum of knowledge gained from the resource persons who mentored at the seminar.
