Let Students’ Health Remain a Priority – SHEP Coordinator to Parents

Coordinator for the School Health Environmental Protection (SHEP) For the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality has emphasized the need for massive sensitization for parents in the various communities concerning the hearing and seeing abilities of students and pupils in the various schools.

According to Mr. Godfred Ceaser, creating a conducive environment to keep parents abreast of the health progress of their children should be prioritized.

“Creating the awareness for parents to know and realize the very importance of organizing such programs such as conducting screening exercise for all students within a particular range to ensure the wellbeing and identification of challenges most students go through during lesson hours is a key element which must be addressed aggressively,” he underscored.

For this to be realized however, Mr. Godfred Ceaser urged parents to avail themselves for PTA meetings to be part of discussions towards their children’s welfare.

“For this dream to be achievable however, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) meetings must be made compulsory for all parents to afford teachers the platform to educate parents on issues concerning the conditions which contribute to students’ low academic performances in schools,” the coordinator stressed.

Speaking with Captain Adabugar during the District Education Observer Project (DEOP) segment of the Morning Show, Mr. Godfred Ceaser entreated school heads to ensure that students seeking admission to the various schools are registered onto the national health insurance scheme.

“Before any pupil is admitted into any school, teachers should enquire if the student is registered onto the Health Insurance Card Scheme before they are enrolled since students who do not have the Health Insurance Card become a burden onto their teachers when they fall sick, especially during school hours,” he asserted.

“Most teachers are also compelled to bear the cost of hospital bills in the absence of parents simply because such students do not have the health insurance card,” he added.

Mr. Godfred Ceaser therefore pleaded with parents to ensure that their wards are adequately registered onto the health insurance scheme before they enroll them in school.
