Run Shift In Schools With High Enrolment – MCE Orders GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) Directorate in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region has been directed to introduce morning and afternoon sessions of schooling for basic schools with large enrolment sizes.

Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area made the call when addressing stakeholders at a Covid-19 measure in schools meeting organized by the GES directorates on Monday, 15 February 2021.

The meeting according to the Municipal Director of Education Mr. William Odoi, “we are meeting today, to discuss, deliberate and conduct impact assessment and evaluate the potential impact of Covid-19 on Ghana’s education system, and propose pragmatic solutions, which could help the government and the Ministry of Education to build required resilience to the pandemic and recover rapidly from it to enable education to continue to run its course for the good of the country.”

 The MCE who expressed worry about Krobo populace disbelieve that coronavirus is real noted that the government through the various district assemblies will in the coming days distribute Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) to some places of public gathering including markets, churches and mosques.

He said PPEs including liquid soap, alcohol-based hand sanitizer, face mask and veronica buckets were going to be giving out as part of the effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus in communities.

It was reported that all necessary PPEs needed by both public and private schools in the municipality were distributed within the first week of re-opening of school.

Mr. Goldfred Caesar, School Health Education Program Coordinator made this known at the stakeholders meeting when addressing the gathering on the arrangement and steps taking by the directorate to ensure coronavirus free schooling.

However, Lower Manya Krobo Health Services Directorate noted that a total of 55 active coronavirus cases troubles the municipality, with 38 in three Senior High Schools.

Even though Mr. Solomon Ohene Djabaah did not mention the schools, Rite FM checks have it that two of them are Akuse Secondary Technical Senior High School and Legacy Girls Senior High School, all in the Akuse Circuit.

Meanwhile, an accumulated number of 385 coronavirus cases has been recorded in the municipality since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020.

With 69,775 recoveries, the country’s total confirmed cases surged up to 78, 271 with the death toll currently at 565.  With 523 new cases confirmed, the total active cases stand at 7, 931.

This is according to Ghana Health Services on its website as of Thursday, 18 February 2021.

In his remarks, Nene Teye Adjesu III who chaired the meeting said, the coronavirus is real, and that the public should take adherence to the measures seriously.  He also appealed to the Odumase Police Command to continue with the public sensitization on the consequences when apprehended for failure to observe the laid down safety measures.

In attendance were, various immediate decision making authorities including the Municipal Assembly, Health Directorates, National Commission for Civic Education, GES, Ghana Police Service, National Security Operatives, Market Queen Mothers, the Clergy, Private school heads, chiefs and the media.
