Story by: Elizabeth Frimpong

Madam Hilda Huadji, Head of WIAD, Agriculture Department in Lower Manya Krobo District has advised the disabled to focus on agribusiness. She said this on March 08, 2016 at the Rite 90.1 FM / USAID funded radio program ‘’FEED THE FUTURE PLATFORM’’ at Somanya, in the Eastern Region of Ghana. She added that, they are doing their possible best to encourage the disabled in the district to go into the agribusiness industry.

According to her, their aim is to educate, give directions and guidance to those who are interested in the agribusiness industry. She further explained, their sector is not responsible for giving the disabled money but they give them agricultural inputs to expand their agribusiness.

She again said, they have been awarding some of the disabled in the district with agricultural inputs during farmer’s day. She encouraged disabled to call on their office if they are interested in the agribusiness industry for any help.

Speaking to Mr. Geoffrey K. Honu, Director of Agriculture in the Upper Manya District on the program, he said, there is a program called ‘’SOCIAL INVESTMENT FUND (SIF)’’ for those in the agricultural sector and they have included the disabled as well. The program will help them to acquire knowledge and skills through training and education. They also give agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, knapsack sprayer and the other machines that will help them in the business.
