NSRA Begins Nationwide Forceful Removal of Unapproved Vehicle Head Light
The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has begun a nationwide action by removing illegal lamps fixed on vehicles.
This follows a release by the NRSA dated 9 September 2021, which advised drivers and vehicle owners to voluntarily comply with the law by 30 September 2021.
The NRSA says it has observed an emergence of the use of unprescribed lamps by section of drivers contrary to Regulation 65 of the Motor Traffic Regulations, 2012, LI2180.
The irregularity was expected as the threat of road crashes especially at night.
Rite FM in a conversation with Ing. Osafo Adoteng, the Head of Planning at the National Road Safety Authority, said, in collaboration with the Driver Vehicle License Authority and the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate of the Ghana Police Service and transport operators, has effective Thursday, October 7, 2021, commenced a coordinated enforcement action across the country to remove these illegal lamps.
According to a public notice sited by Rite FM Drive-Alive on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, the penalty for using unprescribed lamps attracts a fine of not exceeding fifty (50) penalty units (GHs600) or a term of imprisonment not exceeding three months or both.
It further said the Authority may also impose an administrative penalty of not less than 5000 penalty units (Ghs60,000) and not more than 10,000 penalty units (Ghs120,000) against institutions whose vehicles that violate Regulation 65 in accordance with Section 32 of the National Road Safety Authority Act, 2019 (Act 993).
