National Best Farmer Commends Government But Appeals For Marketing Opportunities
A national best farmer has commended the government for the various agriculture and food security interventions being put in place to make farming more attractive to the agrarian community in the country.
Mr. James Oben Boateng asserted that interventions including planting for food and jobs, planting for export and rural development featured with provision of improve seeds and subsidized fertilizers are appropriate steps in the right direction.
The Brong Ahafo based award winner however said, government must provide enabling environment for marketing opportunities and realistic pricing system for the framers to prevent post-harvest loses in the agriculture sector.
According to him, the unavailability of market for farmers for some commodities in the country remains a biggest threat in the agricultural value chain.
The call according Mr. Boateng has become necessary because the interventions government has deployed are yielding results, but the marketing opportunities remains a big challenge for the farmers. He therefore appealed to government to act with immediate effect.
James Obeng Boateng made the remarks during a radio interview on Rite FM Agric Forum last Saturday when discussing the impact of covid-19 on Agriculture in the country.
He observed that the manner in which the Ghanaian populace run away from farming is alarming and said if the situation if not rectified immediately, will be disastrous for the future of the nation, as “we cannot even be able to feed the citizenry, let alone help grow the economy.”
