Man Sentenced 10 Years For Defiling Girl, 9

The Police in Odumase Krobo has confirmed the sentencing of a man (name withheld) to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour after Odumase Krobo Circuit Court found him guilty of defiling a nine-year child.

Superintendent Doris Akua Grant, District Police Commander for Odumase cited the case on Wednesday, 1 September 2021, when educating pupils of the Agormanya Methodist JHS regarding some forms of abuse that they (pupils) usually fall prey to.

The Odumase Police Command in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal has set Wednesdays for school visits to educate and sensitize pupils and students in the basic and senior high schools on the position of the law regarding some basic crimes.

The crimes are defilement, rape, incest, drug abuse, the threat of harm and killing, child labour and child marriage.

Supt. Doris Grant told Rite FM, their action was targeted at reducing the widespread attacks and assaults on school authorities and also limit child involvement in socially unacceptable behavior in the municipality. She also noted that criminal cases involving children have become one to many among recent cases recorded in their books.

Even though she did not give details about the man who was going to be transported to Koforidua Prison immediately after the gathering to begin his jail term following completing a successful Covid-19 test, Supt. Doris Akua further revealed saying, that another man, 30, was caught by law for defiling a thirteen-year-old school girl.

While an unnamed father impregnated his three daughters, a final year JHS pupil, 19, is being prosecuted for fingering a toddler.

Investigating the case further, the court has adjourned the hearing till the accused completes his Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) later November, this year.

Cautioning pupils, the Police Commander says having sexual intercourse while in school is a crime and nonetheless, must desist from it. She urged them not to hesitate to report any assault or crime meted out to them in their everyday life.

The weed commonly referred to as ‘wee’ could be turned into different beverages. While it is prepared into alcohol, some people prefer mixing it with milo for a drink.

Corporal Bernice Omare Yeboah speaking about weed smoking and verbal abuse, cautioned pupils to be careful and vigilant of what food they eat from friends since her outfit is handling a case where an accused served his friend mixed milo with ‘wee’.

In her remarks, Mrs. Victoria Ntume who is the Headteacher for the school says she looks forward to the exercise to change pupils’ behavior in the school.

She appealed to the Police to extend the action to the other schools including private.

While the exercise continues Wednesday, 8 September 2021, at Agormanya Islamic Junior High School, Agormanya Roman Catholic (RC) and Piengua Yokwenor will follow in the subsequent Wednesdays.

The rest are Yokuyim MA, Ayimersu MA and the private schools in the Odumase Circuit B of the Ghana Education Service.

Manya Krobo Senior High School, Akro Technical Senior High School and Krobo Girls Senior School are expected to be part of the action.
