Growing Demand For Food Remains Priorities Of Governments – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has iterated that one of the priorities that has captured the attention of all governments globally is the imperative need to address the growing demand for food, energy and fiber against an ever growing population within the context of the fixed natural resources that our planet can offer.

The president made the remarks in an inaugural address delivered on his behalf by the honourable Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, honourable Seth Terkper during the launch of the Multi Annual strategic Plan –Ambition 2020 by Solidaridad on the theme, ‘Partnering Civil Society Organizations In Addressing The Sustainable Development Goals,’ at the Royal Senchi Resort near Akosombo in the Eastern region.

He said he was happy that there was space for development partners and the donor communities present at the event to share their perspectives on the framework.

The president said though the event may not necessarily be the panacea in addressing every development change, the document had the relevance to attract several partnerships on the different continents and countries where Solidaridad operates as “we adapt the bigger frameworks to regional and continental priorities.”

The event which was graced by various notable personalities including the District Chief Executive of Asuogyaman, honourable Ampem Nyarko, was put together by Solidaridad, a global network organization, with nine regional hubs across five continents that promote sustainable development through interventions that impact positively on communities, agricultural supply chains, climate resilience and national economic development.

In her welcome address, Miss Marian Dao Gabala, Chair International Supervisory Board Chair of Solidaridad Network indicated to the gathering the vision of Solidaridad for a world in which all we produce and all we consume, can sustain us while respecting the planet, each other and the next generation since its establishment over 40 years ago.

She used the opportunity to explain the objectives of the Ambition 2020 and also introduced where they operate across the globe.

Odeneho Kwarfo Akoto III, Akwamumahene and chair of the event in his acceptance speech, indicated that he was happy to be part of this great event and that Ghanaians should be mindful of the fact that God is not going to create any more lands, neither can humanity also create lands. This he added meant that humanity ought to do well to sustain the environment we have now.

The three day event which started on Tuesday is expected to end on Thursday the 17th of March 2016.
