Keeping Ghana Clean, Church of Pentecost Embarks On Sanitation Exercise In Akuse

The Akuse District of the Church of Pentecost has on Saturday led scores of residents in the area to clean some choke drains in the community. As part of the exercise, six tipper trucks of laterites at a cost of GH₵3, 000.00 was used to fill potholes on the Akuse township road.

The exercise was in fulfillment of an initiative by the national Chairman of the church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye upon assumption of office launched a sanitation campaign dubbed, “Environmental Care Campaign” to help Ghana achieve the Sustainable Development Goal on sanitation and hygiene.

Members of the Church of Pentecost under the Akuse District have organized their first clean-up exercise regarding sanitation and public education on the need to keep the environment hygienic. As early as 5:30 am, some key stakeholders including staff of the GCB Bank, the Ghana Police Service, members of the Local council of churches in the area, Assembly members, drivers and students of the AMEST SHS, have converged at the front view of the Akuse Government Hospital ready to partake the exercise.

Over two hundred people, from the church and other stakeholders participated in the first of it kind event in the area. Wearing green, white and orange T-shirt with the campaign slogan “Environmental Care, My Responsibility” boldly printed at the back of the T-shirt, church members swept, collected garbages and sealed potholes in the principal road of Akuse.

Some choked gutters along the road from the government hospital towards the market were desilted, while others carried sand for filling potholes on the road.

Additionally, young boys and girls belonging to the children service held placards with some attitudinal changing inscriptions: “join the cleanup train”, “let’s keep our gutters clean”, “be clean, and be healthy”, cleanliness saves money”.

Pastor Jacob Kwakye Frimpong, the District Pastor, said it is important to note that, Christ who is a perfect example for Christians did not come to live only in the temples but also in towns and communities, thus the need to keep the environment clean to provide good health to live longer as agent of God.

According to him, it is the responsibility of Christians to be supportive in ways like the church of Pentecost is doing to enable the transformation agenda of government. He asked the gathering to always ensure absolute clean environment.

“As children of God, it behooves us to protect the properties of our maker,” Rev. Jacob Kwakye Frimpong said.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Hon. Simon Kweku Tetteh praised the effort and role the church of Pentecost is playing in making Ghana an adorable country.

He has assured the church of Pentecost of his commitment to get the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) add Akuse township roads into the 2020 National budget. He also promised that, in the event that the GHA failed to do so, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly share of the 1 million per constituency will cater for the roads in the area.

Mr. Simon Kweku Tetteh appealed to other christian religious bodies to emulate the Church of Pentecost.
