His Royal Majesty Nene Sakitey II Tours Communities To Acquaint Himself With Problems

In what could be described as game changing move, the Konor and Paramount Chief of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sackitey II has begun a familiarisation tour of major towns within his traditional area to understand their development challenges and explain to them the effort he has being doing so far.

The tour which is meant to identify problems confronting the people, is the first time in more than two decades after the instalment of Nene Sackitey II in 1997.

Nene Sackitey speaking to scores of welcomers at a durbar at Sekesua in the Upper Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region, said his move will close the gap between the people and the traditional leadership in Manya Krobo.

In his welcome Address, the Assemblyman elect, Hon Abraham Tekpertey appealed to stakeholders including the government delegation from Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly, led by Honourable Felix Odjao Nartey and the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon Joseph Tetteh to come to the aid of Sekesua Community.

The most pressing challenges facing Sekesua according to the Assemblyman includes, poor road network from Aketewia to Sumuer Junction, inadequate market structure, coinciding Sekesua market day with Akateng. He also called for creation of new district where Sekesua should be made the capital.

Market days for Sekesua has being Wednesday and Saturdays while Akateng was Thursdays. However, Akateng has now being scheduled for Wednesdays.

 On his part, Nene Sackitey bemoaned the ‘poor’ state of Sekesua saying, “I am not happy over the state of Sekesua.”

He has however, tasked the District Chief Executive (DCE) Hon Felix Odjao Nartey and the law maker (MP), Hon Joseph Tetteh to ensure the challenges raised by the Assemblyman are attended to immediately. He also asked the government representatives to have more stakeholder collaboration meetings with his office since he (Konor, Nene Sackitey II) has been meeting central government in respect of some of the issues facing the district.

He also urged residents of Sekesua to take maximum advantage of the government Free Senior High School programme since education is one of the key tools which will eradicate poverty among us as Ghanaians. He did not hide his tertiary education plan for Krobo people by saying, “my Memorandum of Understanding with University of Ghana, Legon has it that at least, 15 best performing Krobo Senior High School graduates must be granted full scholarship beginning 2020/2021 academic year.”

In what was said to be report on government projects for Sekesua, Hon Felix Odjao Nartey said, 65 out 254 communities in Upper Manya including Sekesua were migrated onto the national electricity grid. He also said the road from Aketewia through Sekesua to Sumuer Junction is under contract for rehabilitation since 2018, but the contractor who is expected to complete the project by February 2020 is delaying the work.

Mr. Felix Odjao Nartey made announcement of over 178.5 Km of road rehabilitations under contract and ongoing in other parts of the district. He also pledged before His Royal Majesty Nene Sackitey II that by the end of the first quarter of 2020, he will complete some sheds in the market for purposely for the gari market.

Accompanying Nene Sackitey II, the Konor of Manya Krobo on his tour were Nene Tettey-Ku Gbadadji, Nene Huapoyu – the senior linguist, Asafoatse Teye Huahuadjai, Jase Kpabitey Kwao, Nene Osom – chief for Akateng, Okyeame Kofi Osanyengmor, Lady Sophia – the wife of Konor and some queen mothers of the land.

Some notable chiefs from the visiting community was Dadematse Ayumu Adjei who is the Chairperson of Upper Manya Dadematseme Union and others.

Form Government front includes Hon. Felix Odjao, Hon Joseph Tetteh and Mr. Akor – NADMO Director, Upper Manya.

The National Democratic Congress, NDC constituency chairperson for the area, Alhaji Moro was also present.

The tour continues Friday, 10January to Asesewa and January 15, 2020 to Akateng.
