Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has revealed that the establishment of Planting for Food and Jobs has caused a reduction of food inflation in the country.
According to him, food inflation decreased from 9.7 in 2016 to 7.2 in 2019 which shows a positive impact of the project.
Speaking at the Meet the Press series, Dr. Afriyie Akoto said the Planting for Food and Jobs aside its impact in food inflation, have engaged over 1,183,293 people across the country in 2019.
He added that it is expected that 14 million people will be engaged by the end of 2020.
The Planting for Food and Jobs initiative was introduced in 2017 to revamp the Agricultural sector.
The main aim of the programme is to address the declining growth of Agriculture in Ghana.
The Minister for Food and Agriculture, during a media briefing on the progress so far, said the initiative has been significant as jobs have been created resulting in the continues decline in food inflation.
He indicated that 745,000 jobs were created in 2019 whilst 794,000 and 746,000 were created in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
