Peasant farmers worried over land grabbing
The peasant farmers association of Ghana (PFAG), has called for a mechanism to regulate what it describe as “land grabbing”, in which agricultural lands are being taken over for estate development.
Speaking to Rite FM News in an interview, the programs officer of peasant farmers. Mr. Nyaaba has said that, all the lands that were meant for agricultural purpose are been given to estate developers.
He added that, farmers in some communities like Dodowa and Ashaiman were complaining because their lands have been given to estate developers, adding that, the activities of the peasant farmers is being undermined because their lands are being used for commercial activities. He noted that, government should enforce the land use policies so that, the agriculture lands should be preserved for farmers to use them for their farming activities.
He stressed that, government should also stop taking lands from the peasant farmers and giving them to commercial farmers.
