Chairman of the Premier Agribusiness Association of Ghana in the Upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region, Mr. Samuel Angmor has advised farmers to start production from the market centers and not from the farm.
This according to Mr. Samuel Angmor is to help farmers identify potential buyers before production.
The chairman who disclosed this in an interview with Captain Adabugar during the ‘Akuafo Sesen’ segment of the Rite Morning Ride said farming remains a very lucrative business with the potential of raking in a lot of income for farmers.
“Farming is a very lucrative business from which farmers can fetch good money and they should therefore be very serious about it so that they can enjoy the fruits of their labors after harvest,” he asserted.
He decried the approach of some farmers to the occupation as a hobby, adding that farming is serious business and not a hobby.
“Most farmers take farming as hobby instead of business which must be run with caution. They don’t conduct market surveys to look out for demands and potential buyers to bargain on fixed prices before supply which invariably lead to post-harvest losses and the selling of their products at cheap rates to middle men who rip them of their deserved profits,” he regretted.
Mr. Angmor while disapproving of the popular approach of marketing where farmers failed to look for demand or market before production, said the approach was unacceptable especially in the face of glaring competition from other farmers same products for the same consumers.
