Two Day Workshop For Non State Actors Held In Accra

A two day workshop for the Ghana Non-State Actors scheduled for the 5th and 6th of April, 2016 is currently ongoing in Accra at the Holiday Inn Hotel. The Ghana Non-State Actors is a body made up of individual farmers including crop and livestock farmers as well as dealers in agricultural inputs but which do fall directly under the government.

The workshop which is put together by the Africa Leads is aimed at sensitizing the Non-State Actors in Ghana to strategize on the status of the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Program (CAADP).

The event, supported by the United States Agency for International Development, USAID, also seeks at creating a frame work that will guide the Nuaso Involvement, a shared understanding on their role of CAADP process and provide progress made at the continental, regional and national levels.

Madam Felicia Afia Owusu Nyantakyi who is a member of the Non-State Actors in an interview with Rite news indicated that the program which is under CAADP is supported by the American government with the aim to support African countries to unite its farmers for sustainable agricultural development in African countries.

According to her, the main aim of the program is to raise the living standards of ordinary farmers who are malnourished despite the fact that they remain farmers.

She added that the CAADP programme which began in 2005 was renewed in 2015 for another ten years which will see it run till 2025. Miss Nyantakyi said this is the time to work hand in hand with the government to do away with poverty and hunger and the CAADP platform seeks to find the solution as to how they can make this dream come true.

At the end of the workshop, organizers reviewed and discussed the concept of mutual accountability and the rational status as well as the next step for strengthening agricultural joint sector review (JSR) in Ghana. That is not all; they also presented highlights of the NAIP of Ghana, METASIP as well as SDGs to give insights to the NSAs.

It also seeks to draft an action plan for areas in which the NSA’s engagement in Ghana can be strengthened for the implementation of the Malebo declaration at the national level.
