Okwenya Bridge Nears Completion, See Pictures Below
Work on a vehicular as well as footbridge connecting commuters to Somanya and Akuse Junction in the Yilo Krobo Municipal is in the advanced stage.
The government has contracted Asabea Engineering limited to reconstruct the bridge at Okwenya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region at a sum of twelve million Ghana Cedis.
Though the term of duration for completion was earmarked for one year, according to the project consultant, the Safety officer for Knight Construction – the mother firm which is leading the rehabilitation of 50 bridges in Ghana with a Czech Republican fourty-seven euros million loan facility, Mr. Emmanuel Awotwe told Rite 90.1 FM that work will be completed in October, 2021, 3 months ahead of the agreed date.
He added that the steel used for the construction of the bridge was the first time ever in Africa so long as bridge work is concern.
Having completed the bases and setting the gilder (steel metal plates connecting one base to the other), bracing with concrete slabs began Monday, 23 August, 2021.
This will be followed by asphalting of the surface of the bridge and some two hundred meters distance away from the bridge at both ends.
Hon Ebenezer Tetteh kupualor, Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo who is happy with the rate and quality of work done so far commended Asabea Engineering Limited for their cooperation.
In a street interview with residents in Somanya, a man says the bridge will look beautiful with large space for the passage of water when complete.
