Integrate Maternal Health Activities Into Medium Term Development Plan – GHS To Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly

For quality health delivery, the Yilo Krobo health directorate is calling on the Municipal Assembly to inculcate maternal and child health activities into the assembly’s medium term development plan for the year 2022 and beyond.

Mrs. Irina Ofei, the municipal health director for Yilo Krobo made the call at, a volunteers’ orientation and training workshop for volunteering community health promoters under a Japanese Organization International Cooperation Family Planning (JOICFP) project dubbed, Maternal and Child Health (MCH).

Ghana Health Services in conjunction with JOICFP is rolling out a project, which seeks to increase access to quality reproductive health services for women in their reproductive ages, offer accurate information and knowledge of women’s health including antenatal care, postnatal, skilled delivery, sexually transmitted infections and family planning.

As part of the project, a total of 80 volunteers, classified as MCH promoters are currently receiving four days of training at the Mohee Executive Hotel in Atua to help minimize the incidence of unintended pregnancies among their peers. Health service providers in the project communities will also be trained on live saving skills, youth friendly services and customer care.

The training which begun Monday, 9 August, 2021 will come to a close Thursday, 12 August, 2021, with a closing ceremony at the Yilo Krobo Municiapl Asseembly Hall.

In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, Hon Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor, asked volunteers not to look back on their roles since their services were not going to earn them wages. However, he assured the volunteers and the health directorate of the readiness of the municipal assembly to offer them supports that are in their means.

He also advised the volunteers to respect their privacy and keep their mouth shut about outcomes from the people they would engage.

Hon. Kupualor who was accompanied by his Coordinating Director, Mr. P. K. Asamoah remarked his engagement with the participants by inviting comments and questions regarding challenges in the respective communities.

The project beneficiary communities including Nkurakan, Pleyo, Aketerbuor, Bukunor and Obenyemi among others, are represented by men and women ranging from early adults to the aged of various social backgrounds.

While some appealed for reshaping and renovation of their road network and health facilities, others have appealed the Municipal Assembly to support them with motor bicycles to enable them to deliver their volunteering task.
