Mango Sellers Association Calls For A National Mango Market In Somanya.

Miss Adamptey Teiki, President of the Agbogbloshi Mango Sellers Association and the mango market queen for Tema, Miss Vivian Narh have called for a national mango market to be constructed in Somanya. This call was made by the association representatives during an interview with Rite FM concerning unregulated artificial ripening.

Efforts made by Miss Adamptey Teiki to reduce unregulated artificial ripening in the Agbogbloshi market have proven futile and this informed the call for a central mango market in Somanya. She believes this will improve monitoring and accountability of the fruits, farmers and the traders. The farmers will supply specific buyers and records will be kept for specific batches of fruits so when cases of unregulated ripening and other malpractices are observed, the specific culprits can be traced, apprehended and dealt with.

The association representatives called for an improved effort by the regulatory bodies to tackle the issue. They admonished the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to sit up and come up with more innovative approaches to reduce unregulated artificial ripening to the barest minimum.

Somanya, the capital of the Yilo Krobo District can boast of its double season mango production. It is known for its rampant mango production and this validates the call for the national market.
