Director of Extensions at the Shai-Osudoku District in the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Jonathan Nartey, has paid glowing tributes to the lasting effects that the Mobilizing Action towards Agric Sector Improvement project(MAASI) organized by Rite FM, continue to have on the assembly.
Mr. Jonathan Nartey, who appeared as guest on Rite FM’s Akuafo Sesen segment on the Rite Morning Ride, told host Krobea Asante that the previous MAASI programme organized by Rite FM and supported by the united states agency for international development, USAID has really helped them a lot by educating them on the needed awareness as far as the Agric Sector is concerned.
One notable footprint he reckoned the project left behind was the district assembly’s appreciation on the need to establish Agric sub-committees rather than a ‘Development Committee’ as well as a budget to fund the extension services.
‘The MAASI project made the assembly see the need in the establishment of Agric sub-committees instead of the ‘Development Committee.’ We also came to realize the need in drawing a budget to fund the activities of the various extension services for efficient and effective delivery.’ Mr. Nartey noted.
He has therefore pleaded with the government and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector to support them by assisting the extension services department with vehicles for their transportation purposes as well as equipment to enable them easily reach out to farmers for consistent education on the best farming practices among other things to improve upon the Agric sector.
The Mobilizing Actions towards Agric Sector Improvement (MAASI) organized by Rite FM between the middle of 2015 and the latter part of 2016 was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and which has brought a lot of impact especially on best farming practices to farmers and infrastructure development to some communities.
