One armed robber who was part of a three man gang who embarked on a cocoa stealing operation has been gunned down by some community members at Larbikrom in the Kwaebibrem district of the Eastern Region for stealing six (6) bags of cocoa belonging to Olam Company limited.
Confirming the incident to Rite Fm news, the assembly member for the area, Hon. Patrick Cobber said the deceased Kwabena Burger 32; a chainsaw operator was in company of two other robbers who decided to break into a cocoa shed belonging to the said company. During their operation, the robbers successively stole six (6) out of fourteen (14) bags of cocoa in the shed.
He stated that the community upon hearing the news, mounted surveillance and an intensive search for the supposed robbers. He said they managed to track down the suspects and in the course of the confrontation; one of the robbers was shot which resulted in his death. The other two however managed to escape the wrath of the mob and are currently in hiding.
Meanwhile police at Asuom are still investigating the cause of the incident.
