Stop lying to Ghanaians – Sir John tells Irbard Ibrahim

A former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked Irbard Ibrahim, who describes himself as an international relations and security expert, to stop spreading falsehood.

Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie affectionately called Sir John is questioning the academic and other criteria used in assigning the security expert label to Irbard Ibrahim.

He believes the 2012 graduate of the University of Ghana is only ‘lying to Ghanaians’.

“What at all is this guy up to with this security terms he is confusing Ghanaians with? I think he is just lying to Ghanaians and so the earlier we put him at the right place, the better for all of us,” he stated.

Angry Ghanaians, including several religious bodies have called on President Mahama to return the two former terror suspects currently living in Ghana for fear they might pose a security threat to the country.

The opposition NPP and several civil society and religious bodies have also heavily criticized the President’s unilateral decision to accept the two Yemenis, who were in the maximum security detention centre in Cuba, for the next two years.

Irbard Ibrahim claimed in an interview on Joy FM on Monday that NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo was informed about six months ago of the US government’s intention to bring Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby into the country, and wondered why he (Akufo-Addo) was asking government to return them.

“I can say for a fact that Nana Akufo-Addo was duly informed six clear months before the Gitmo detainees touched down…he was informed by the Americans…there was broad-based consultation…,” he claimed on the show.

This ‘fact,’ he said makes him wonder why Nana Addo could deny knowledge of the coming of the Gitmo two into the country.
Spokesperson of the NPP flagbearer, Mustapha Hamid has dismissed the claim and challenged Irbard Ibrahim to produce his academic and work experiences that qualify him as an expert.
Sir John, speaking on an Accra based radio station described Irbard Ibrahim’s claims as ‘diversionary tactics’ meant to take the heat away from the authorities.
“This security expert speaks as though he is part of the security people in the country which I know he is not. I urge Ghanaians not to pay attention to him because all that he is saying are all lies,” he asserted.
