Public cautioned against unwholesome chicken

Of course most households tend to consume a lot of meat, particularly poultry as part of the celebrations of the activities. The danger therein is the propensity to unconsciously buy unwholesome products, especially from the cold stores and also from the markets which in the long term could leave consumers exposed to danger.

In view of this, consumers have been cautioned to critically examine animal products that are purchased from cold stores during this Christmas festivity. The call was made by the head of Animal Product Department of the Food and Drug Authority (FDA), Mr Robert Tettey Agyei in an interview with Rite news. Mr. Agyei cautioned the general public to be wary of cold store operators who will release spoilt chicken into the system.

He explained that consumers should check the nature and the type of meat from the market, especially the smell and the expiry date as to whether it’s safe for human consumption.

He added that his outfit has put in place measures that hinge on a risk assessment programs to bring this meat shop operators into compliance with the law, adding that FDA will prosecute anybody found selling rotten products in the market.
