PDS SOMANY DISTRICT EMBARKS ON MASS REVENUE MOBILIZATION UNDER HEAVY POLICE ESCORT

The Power Distribution Service (PDS) formerly known as Electricity Company of Ghana is on a serious house to house revenue mobilization and power disconnection exercise in the Krobo areas of the Somanya District.

The exercise which is a jointly operation from the Tema Regional and Somanya District offices of the power distributor is accompanied by armed police officers to ensure the safety of PDS staff.

Speaking to Rite Morning Ride on Rite 90.1 FM, the District Manager Mr. Edward Ochire said the move has become necessary due to the failure by many residents to pay their electricity bills since 2017.

 A situation he said has led to revenue shortfall of over eighty four million Ghana Cedis within the Krobo enclaves.

The Somanya District office of the Electricity Company of Ghana now Power Distribution Service (PDS) on May 26, 2017 came under attack from angry residents over what they described as outrageous utility bills.

Properties of the PDS including Police vehicle were vandalized and burnt in separate violent attacks. Many residents have since refused to pay electricity bills and threaten to attack PDS staff that attempt disconnection of their homes.

This action has since rendered the PDS revenue generation weak.

Hundreds of houses in Kpong and Nuaso have been disconnected in the ongoing exercise, and expected to extend its to Yilo Krobo in the subsequent days.

Information gathered by Rite Fm indicates that one person was arrested and grated bail same day for attempting to resist disconnection of his homee.

Rite FM also gathered that the exercise which did not free businesses, churches and houses raked in well over GHC 100, 000 in first two days at Kpong.

Mr. Ochere applauded residents for their peaceful cooperation through the exercise and encourage them to report to the office when there are further problems.
