Sodom and Gomorrah demolition won’t affect NDC in 2016 – Vanderpuije

The Mayor of Accra Alfred Oko Vanderpuije has said that the demolition of Sodom and Gomorrah- the biggest slum in Ghana- will not affect the fortunes of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 elections.

According to him, victims of the exercise will later on appreciate the need for the government to have undertaken the action.

Over one thousand homes were destroyed in the shanty community last Saturday rendering scores of people homeless. The exercise is expected to resume in the coming days.

The affected individuals have today, Monday June 22 taken to the streets to protest against the move which is being spearheaded by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

The AMA boss said the exercise is necessary to save the lives of the people living in the area.

“When you do the right thing; you don’t fear. These people who are saying they won’t vote for John Mahama, if we allow the condition to continue, they may not even live to cast a vote in 2016.

“They will come to realise that this action saved their lives for which they have a second life to live and they will appreciate it come 2016,” he said.
