His Majesty Sakite II Ends Tour At Akateng With A Call For Peaceful Election

Ahead of the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections, the Paramount Chief of Manya Krobo Traditional Area in the Eastern Region is calling for peace before, during and after the polls.

His Royal Majesty Sakite II advised the people of the Upper Manya Krobo District to safeguard the peace in the area by living in harmony with each other irrespective of the ethnic differences .

Nene Sakitey II made the call when addressing a durbar in Akanteng, the second largest community in the district to mark the end of his problem identification tour in the district.

The occasion also served as the platform for Nene Sakite to introduce Nene Ossom Amanor I as the chief for the people of Akateng.

The Konor of Manya Krobo (Lower and Upper Manya Krobo Districts) begun familiarization tour to major towns in the Upper Manya Krobo District; Sekesua and Asesewa in January, 2020.

The move was also aimed to interact and identify problems in the district and also close the gap between the people and the traditional council.

He appealed to the different tribes occupying the district to live in peace and harmony with each other.

Nene Sakite II reacting to a call from the community, underscored the need to put up a police post in the middle of Akateng-Asesewa road to stop the rampant alarming armed robbery situation in the area.

The District Chief Executive for the area who received commendation from his traditional overlord on his commitment towards developing the district, promised to supervise peaceful Upper Manya Krobo before and after the elections in December.

Hon Felix Odjao Nartey charged fisher folks in the community to help the Police Command to clamp down on those who’s being engaging in premix fuel black market.

Mr Kojo Narteh, the Akanteng community secretary presenting his welcome address on behalf of the Akanteng chief Nene Ossom Amanor, noted that irregularities in the supply and sales of premix fuel was seriously destroying the fishing market.

“…over 70% of the entire population but inadequate premix fuel supply become a major challenge facing the people in Upper Manya especially at Akateng as a result of the cabal in the premix fuel distribution and irregularities of selling to the fishermen…,” he revealed.

Mr. Kojo further revealed that “… these irregularities have brought a disaster by claiming lives, and houses got burnt as a result of combustible fuel hidden in most houses with the absence of law enforcement in the area.”

But Hon Felix Nartey Odjao says the people and opinion leaders of the Akanteng community should have effective collaboration with the police since his outfit as head of the District Security Committee (DISEC) has put measures in place to curtail the security challenges in the area.

As fun as the event was, chiefs and queen mothers present danced to the Krobo traditional drumming.
