30 Acres Of Cocoa Farm Land Burnt Into Ashes

Some cocoa farmers in Akrabo in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region were on Tuesday reduced to tears after more than 30 acres of their cocoa farmlands were completely reduced to ashes in a blazing bushfire.

Explaining to Rite news how the disaster occurred on the Rite Morning Ride, one of the victims of the disaster, Mr. Enock Agudze explained that about 30 acres of cocoa farms belonging to eight (8) different farmers got burnt without a clue as to what caused the fire.

He stated that they set up their farms fifteen (15) years ago and which had for all those years served as their only source of livelihood for them and their families. According to a distraught Mr. Agudze, losing all the 30 acres of their cocoa farmlands was devastating and a big blow to them and their dependents.

To ease their pain therefore, the distraught farmers are therefore pleading with Government to come to their aid in terms of supporting them financially to help replant their lost cocoa. Mr. Agudze took the opportunity to advise his colleague farmers to insure their farms to cushion them in case of circumstances such as this.

Mr. Agudze also painstakingly cautioned farmers to desist from the practice of setting fires on their farms especially in the harmattan season since it has the potential of spreading out of hand and causing mass destructions.
