Gov’t will fix drainage problem in Accra – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has given an assurance that the government will fix the drainage problem in Accra to prevent future flooding of the city.

Addressing some victims of the June 3 floods at Kokomlemle in Accra yesterday just before the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) distributed relief items to them, he said nothing would be left to chance to protect lives and property through a proper drainage system.

At the same time, he asked the people to also do their part by keeping the environment clean to prevent the gutters from becoming choked.

He urged them to take a keen interest in the national sanitation day exercises to clean their environments.

Tour

Mr Mahama, in an all-black outfit and wearing dark goggles, interacted with some of the residents of the areas where the floods caused devastation.

At the time of the visit, some of the victims were still drying their mattresses and other items in the sun.

He consoled families who lost their loved ones to the flood and fire disasters. The President also wished those who were injured a speedy recovery.

For people who had still not found family members since that fateful night, he entreated them to go to the hospitals where victims were sent to find out whether their relatives were among the dead or injured.

Relief items

He said although the relief items could not replace everything that the victims had lost, they would, nevertheless, help address some of the problems the victims were going through.
