Teenage pregnancy on the high in Yilo Krobo

Dr. Akosua Owusu, Yilo Krobo Municipal Health Director has revealed that Yilo Krobo is leading in teenage pregnancy in the Eastern Region with 16.1%.

Revealing the statistic, Dr. Akosua said in 2014, Ghana as a nation had 12.1%of teenage pregnancy cases whiles in the Eastern Region, it was 14.4% and lastly in Yilo Krobo they had 16.1% which is the highest in the Region.

Dr. Akosua speaking in an interview with Rite FM made a call to teenagers in the Yilo Krobo municipality to desist from early sex to prevent teenage pregnancy because it is very alarming and dangerous to their development.

She said, the municipal Health Directorate has added it to their programmes plan for the year to educate the public and the teenagers on teenage pregnancy and maternal death starting from the month of July.

She therefore urged parents and guidance to monitor the activities of their children and prevent them from loitering in the community for social events especially in the night because, that is the major contributing factors that leads to teenage pregnancy.

She observed that, most of the teenagers are influenced by certain peer groups in the communities which also leads to this teenage pregnancy adding that, parents and guidance should make sure that they make provisions of social needs for their children especially the ladies in other for them not to depend on men for money or other social needs.
