Rural People Are The Strength Of The Rural Banks

By: Ahiador Catherine

Managing Director of the ARB Apex Bank Limited, Mr. Kwadwo Aye Kusi, has lauded the contributions of rural people to the solid strength of the rural banks. Mr. Aye who was speaking during this year’s Annual General Meeting of shareholders of the Upper Manya Kro Rural Bank Limited at Asesewa on Saturday, while lauding the rural people, said ‘the strength of the cluster of rural banks strongly lies on the shoulders of the people living in the rural communities.’

This, according to him is because, majority of the indigenes here in the rural communities are into agriculture as their main source of livelihood. He added that agriculture has been a great source that helps shareholders who are into agriculture to get money to invest in the rural banks. ‘All that is needed from the shareholders is to invest in the rural banks,’ he emphasized.

The call from the ARB Apex Bank Boss was not only to shareholders in the communities as he equally called on all investing companies in the country to consider investing more in the rural banks. ‘Investing in the rural banks amounts to the contribution to the socio- economic development of the country,’ Mr. Aye noted.

He was also happy that training of banking staff was no longer the expensive venture it used to be. This according to him is because of the introduction of ICT into the banking sectors which has eliminated the practice of traveling to hotels and other training centers for ICT training.

‘Our staff will now receive modern technological training to avoid too much cost on the banks. As a key mandate of the Apex bank, I would make sure that we continue to offer practical training necessary for the rural bank to proceed on their agenda.’

On what support the rural banks extend to the folks in the rural communities, Mr. Aye pointed out that the rural banks are putting in more efforts to support people living in the rural communities. “I think the Upper Manya Kro Rural Bank is doing well in terms of its social responsibilities, except that there is always a limit to what we can do,’ he added.
