Enforce Covid-19 Laws – Eastern Regional Minister

The Honourable Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Eric Kwakye Darfour is urging the Police and other security services to strictly enforce the laws regarding preventive measures put in place to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
Chairing the Eastern Regional Public Health Emergency Committee on Covid-19, the Minster made the call after it came to light that citizens are are being recalcitrant in adhering to the social distancing and other protocol guidelines directed by World Health Organization (WHO) and Ghana Health Service (GHS).


On their part, the committee also directed that the Information Services Department (ISD), National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) and the Health Promotion Unit of the Ghana Health Services should continue their public education programme especially on social distancing, wearing of face mask, stigmatization
He said strict adherence to the directives issued by government and health authorities to Ghanaians will help curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic is in the right direction.

“The directives which include the call on Ghanaians to stay at home, observe social distancing rule, wash their hands with soap under running water regularly and use of hand sanitizers, are seen to be the antidotes to prevent infection and curtailing further spread of the virus its very simple so we must obey” he said.
According to Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour, “Ghana will be able to break the back of Covid-19 only, if citizens make a conscious effort to stay at home.
“We also need to observe the social distancing rule and regularly wash our hands with soap under running water as issued by the health authorities in the country,” he advised.
According to him, security agencies has been empowered to ensure laws governing the fight against COVID 19 is maintained so, they can urgently be deployed to monitor and enforce the social distancing protocol at market places.
Touching on efforts made by the Region to curb the spread, he noted that enough Veronica buckets and other Personal Protection Equipment for the front line workers have been provided and consistently being educating the traders as well as the general public across the region to observe social-distancing and other protocols.
