Low Sales Affecting Poultry Farmers
The chairman of the Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers, Mr. Victor Oppong Adjei has in an interview with Rite fm said that the low purchase of poultry birds is affecting the poultry farmers as this does not encourage poultry farming in the country.
Mr. Victor Oppong Adjei noted that the importation of chicken has reduced the patronage of the domestic birds as the general population trends in favour of the purchase of foreign birds due to its relatively cheaper cost.
He further lamented that the importation of foreign birds into the domestic market has taken about 90% of the total purchase for domestic birds, adding that during the epidemic break of the bird flu virus, banks were not ready and willing to offer them loans to purchase the necessary equipment and facilities needed to cater for the birds against the diseases.
He has therefore called on authorities and investors to assist them as this will lead to the creation of more job opportunities in the country as a whole.
