Yilo Krobo mango famers begin harvesting

Mango farmers in the Yilo Krobo Municipality has begun the harvesting of their mangoes in this major season.

Most of the farmers are harvesting their mangoes for export whiles others are targeting the local market.

Mr. Frank Wilson, the manager of Farm Management Service Ltd (FMSL), one of the leading producers of mangoes in the municipality has revealed to Rite FM that, they will start harvesting their mangoes tomorrow which will call for processing companies like blue skies to buy some of them, while large quantity will be exported to Europe.

He explained that, though there were frequent rainfall that destroyed the flowers of the mangoes he is optimistic there is going to be a bumper harvest this major season.

Mr. Wilson noted that the few flowers that was left on the trees were able to produce large size of mangoes some weighing 1kilo and above.

In further clarification of exporting the mangoes, he addressed that, they will; bring in more experts to inspect the mangoes especially those that are infected by fruit flies, sort them out before they will be exported.
