Cocoa Not Being Sacrificed For Rubber –Bishop Kabotey

Bishop Kabotey, a board member of the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana at Akyem Tafo in the Eastern Region has played down fears that the Ghana Cocoa Board intends sacrificing Cocoa crops and cocoa lands in the country for the growing of rubber plantations.

He categorically noted that those were all lies while insisting that rather, pragmatic measures were being put in place by Cocoa Board in order to effectively grow Cocoa in the country which he said was the best for the farmers. Bishop Kabotey in dismissing the rumours, questioned the basis for such weird allegations.

Fears were rife particularly among cocoa farmers that the Ghana Cocoa Board (GCB) intended banning the cultivation of cocoa crops in the country while swaying allegiance to a supposed new lucrative ‘love’, rubber.

He further stated that the number of cocoa seedlings which cocoa Board was giving to farmers were very encouraging which was enough proof that the Ghana Cocoa Board was working on improving cocoa production in the country rather than killing the industry.
