MDCEs In Stable Condition After Car Crash.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Mohammed Yusif Tanko in an interview with Rite FM Morning Ride host, Austin Ofori Addo disclosed that, the four MDCEs and passengers involved in the crash are all responding to treatment.

According to him, the regional command had the information around 5:30am that a Benz bus driving from Accra to Tamale veered off its lane and crashed head on with the vehicle of the MDCEs leading to the accident.

Two out of the three passengers have been discharged leaving the driver and the MDCEs yet to be discharged, he said.

Four Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the Northern Region were involved in a car crash on the Tamale – Accra highway in the early hours of Monday, 24 June 2019.

They were travelling in a convoy to Wa, the capital of the Upper West Region, to join President Nana Akufo-Addo to launch the ‘Rearing for Food and Jobs’ flagship programme.

They include the D.C.E. for Mion, Abdallah Mohammed Hashim; Gushegu M.C.E. Issah Musah, Bimbila M.C.E Abdulai Yakubu and Zabzugu D.C.E. Ahmed Abukari Iddrisu.

They have been stabilized and currently receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. There are plans to airlift them to the 37 Military Hospital for comprehensive medical care.

The accident occurred some meters from the Datoyili police barrier at the outskirts of Tamale.

Meanwhile the Northern Regional, minister Salifu Saeed who confirmed the accident said: “A Benz bus from Accra – I think he [the driver] travelled throughout the night; I think the fatigue – all of a sudden veered into the Zabzugu DCE’s vehicle and they got crashed and the vehicle somersaulted and that led to the accident”.

He explained that the MDCEs had “decided that instead of each one of them using their own vehicles, they should park [their cars] and use a shared vehicle [to travel together]”, and that is why they were all in one vehicle.

He further added that accident cases have been recorded severally on that particular road, therefore, they are doing all they can to solve that issue.
