NPP will soon accuse God of bias – Kofi Adams

National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has scoffed at threats by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to boycott the public forum on the voters register organised by the Electoral Commission (EC) if it fails to reconstitute the panel.

According to Kofi Adams, the opposition party is just running away from a disgrace that might arise from its shambolic claim of a bloated register.

The Commission has set up a five-member panel expected to look into various concerns raised regarding the credibility of the register.

The members include His Lordship Professor V.C.R.A.C. Crabbe, Co-Chair of the Coalition for Domestic Election Observers, (CODEO), Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana and Chairman of the National Peace Council; Dr Grace Bediako, a former Government

Statistician and former member of the National Development Planning Commission.

The rest are Dr Nii Narku Quaynor, a computer scientist, Chairman of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) Board of Directors, and President of the Internet Society of Ghana; and Maulvi Bin Salih, Ameer of the Ahmadiyya Mission of Ghana.

But the NPP has objected to the inclusion of His Lordship Professor Crabbe who is not in favour of a new register and Dr Nii Narku Quaynor said to be a member of the NDC.

They are asking the two gentlemen to recuse themselves from the EC panel for a “free and fair dissussion”.

However, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Kofi Adams said the NPP is just running away from its shadows.

“They know their claim of a bloated register is false so they are just using the panel as a smokescreen to run away,” he stated.

The NDC National Organizer also debunked claims that Dr Quaynor is a member of the party since “we don’t need a party member to sell our position or idea”.

Kofi Adams stressed that the NPP will be shooting itself in the foot if it boycotts a forum by a body mandated to conduct elections in the country.

Sarcastically, he urged the NPP to propose its flagbearer and running mate as EC Chairman and panel member respectively to advance their cause.

“Let Nana Addo resign to become the EC Chairman and Dr. Bawumia a panel member but you will still lose the debate,” he added.

Kofi Adams said the NDC will go to the public forum “irrespective of who is a member on the panel to state our case.”
