Low Patronage Affecting Tomato Sellers

By Saddath Asiamah:

Tomato sellers in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo district of the eastern region have complained bitterly of low patronage in their business.

In an interview with madam Doris Awayea Osimisi,  a tomato seller at somanya, she told Rite business news that her patrons are unable to patronize all her goods due to the high cost of the commodity. She said she and her colleagues in the business are sometimes forced to buy the tomatoes exorbitantly. For instance she said she gets some of her supplies from Techieman at Gh c 700 per box which according to her is very expensive for her business.

She said it’s cheaper at Begoro at Gh c 500 though that’s also expensive.

She said profit sometimes is very minimal, adding since tomatoes is easily perishable, they are forced to reduce it after sometime in order to prevent it from totally rotting and making a loss.

She named such customers as kenkey, wakye and other food sellers as some of her customers who buy in large quantities.
