Odododiodio NDC fights Vanderpuije

Constituency executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have launched a scathing attack on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) chief executive accusing him of not being sensitive.

This was at a meeting between the Member of Parliament (MP) for Odododiodio constituency, Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuije, the mayor Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije and some constituency executives. In angry tones they accused the mayor of being ‘insensitive and inhuman.’

The party members in an emotionally charged session (screaming, insulting and shedding tears) during and after the meeting were clear in their minds that the ruling party stands the risk of losing next years’ general elections because of the current stands of the mayor.

The meeting according to reports ended abruptly with the Mayor’s only contribution being to reiterate his stands that he had no option but to take the current line of action, despite requests by the MP and party members that the demolitions be halted.

Addressing journalists after the inconclusive meeting, Hon. Lante Vanderpuye who is a deputy minister for Local Government and Rural Development disclosed that three plan of action had been reached during the meeting.

To assist displaced who wish to return to the North, to find temporal settlement for affected women and children and to agree on demarcated boundaries of the scope of demolition.

In a radio interview, the public relations officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has refuted claims that the city authority had demolished beyond the agreed 100 meter boundary. Demolitions meanwhile were ongoing even as the meeting was being held.
