One dead in Cape Coast police swoop

Hours of police swoops in suburbs of the Cape Coast metropolis Thursday turned sour when one of the arrested suspects died after allegedly complaining of ill-health.

Angry neighbours from around the beach communities of Anaafo and Ntsin where the deceased lived trooped to the Bakaano police station where about 30 others were being held, ostensibly for “revenge.”

For about twenty minutes, they pelted two policemen who stood guard in front of the station with stones before they were dispersed.

Some of the people who Graphic Online spoke to said the deceased had a drinking bar along the Anaafo beach and that the police had assaulted him during the swoop.

But police sources explained that the middle aged man popularly called Uncle Papa complained after his arrest that he was not well and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police have relocated 20 of the 37 suspects to different police cells and say they will make a statement on the swoop Friday.
